It seems that many people have asked about this mysterious symbol on the New King James Bible. The symbol is called a Triquetra and has historically been a pagan symbol. Eventually this symbol came to be used by the Christians as a symbol of the Holy Trinity. Presumably the approximation occurred because of the three shapes that could easily be interpreted as the Christian “fish” symbol.

Most recently the symbol has been adopted by the neo-pagans and the New Age. In both Wicca and the New Age the symbol can represent the triple goddess (maid, mother, and crone). It represents the three aspects of the feminine life cycle, the maiden (the young virgin), the mother (pregnancy and motherhood) and the crone (old age and immense wisdom). It is interesting to note that the Aquarian Conspiracy, the handbook for the New Age, carries the same symbol New-Age adherents freely admit that it symbolizes three inter-locking 6’s or 666. Interestingly enough this symbol also appears on the TV program “Charmed” and appears on the front cover of "The Book of Shadows" which is used in witchcraft and Satanism. Symbols have always been important to all occultic or esoteric teachings, for they contain secret wisdom accessible only to the initiated.

Perhaps the publishers of the NKJV Bible were unaware of it deeply Gnostic roots, we may never know. However we do know that the publishers have since removed the symbol from their new printing.
